Carolyn Roberts Obituary

In Loving Memory of Caroyln B. Roberts

“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me .”John 14:1

Carolyn Beatrice Roberts was born the sixth child of seven children to Madison and Margaret Catherine Roberts on December 9,1942 in Lumberton, North Carolina. She departed her earthly journey on Monday March 4, 2024, at home surrounded by her loved ones.Carolyn was educated in the public school of Robeson County and graduated from J. H. Hayswood High School in 1960. She was employed by Converse Manufacturing for years. When the plant closed, she attended Robeson Community College and earned her CNA Levels 1 and 2. She was employed at
Southeastern Regional Medical Center and Native Angels as well. Carolyn loved serving others and never met a stranger. She spent many, many hours visiting the sick, shut in, and taking care of both family, friends, and neighbors.Carolyn was the first playwriter for the church, and she was creative in her writing similar to Tyler Perry. She wrote plays and poems which the children and adults performed every year for special programs. If you needed a fundraising project for the church, Carolyn was the one to make it happen! Carolyn served her church from childhood until she became ill and could no longer serve. She learned every aspect of the church duties under the tutelage of her Aunt Maddie Purdie. Carolyn was a lifelong
member of Greater Chrysolite AME Zion Church. Carolyn served in a number of capacities including Leaders of Leaders, Class Leader, Trustee, Women’s Home & Overseas Missionary Society, and she was a Deaconess. Her favorite scripture was, “If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.  ” 2 Chronicles 7:14  Carolyn performed her duties in the church as a servant leader in the local district. She was a role model who strived to serve others rather than display a need for power and control. Her motto was “watch me and model yourself as I do, be a disciple of Christ.”She was preceded in death by her parents, four sibling James Edward Roberts, Pearline Corbin, Charles Eugene Roberts, and Mary Ann Chatman. She is survived by two sisters Thelma Marie Thomas of the home, and Margaret Irene Corbin of Philadelphia, PA. One sister-in-law Dorothy Louise Roberts of Lumberton, her loving niece (like a daughter) Patricia Ann Roberts-Liles of Lumberton whom she raised as her own child, Ann Moody her dedicated caregiver, her Spiritual mothers, Dr. F. S. Brown, and Rev.Kittie Jacobs. She is also survived by 12 nieces, 6 nephews, a host of great and great-great nieces and nephews, cousins, and other relatives. She was loved and embraced by Rev. and Mrs. William Peterson, and a great number of friends including the members of Greater Chrysolite A.M. E. Zion Church who loved and supported Carolyn.
