Gloria Thompson Obituary

In Loving Memory of Gloria Ann Thompson

In loving memory of Gloria Ann Thompson, who passed away on May 21, 2024, at her home. Born on October 25, 1955, in Robeson County, she was the cherished daughter of the late Lennon “Horsefly” McKoy and the late Thelma “Pete” McKoy.

Gloria attended Robeson County Public Schools. Known for her mischievous spirit, Gloria was a true prankster who loved a good joke and always spoke her mind. She had a diverse taste in music, with favorites including "The Clean Up Woman" by Betty Wright, songs by Tina Turner, Marvin Gaye, and many others, reflecting her lively personality.

Gloria’s favorite indulgence was chocolate cake, a dessert she could never resist, especially when enjoyed with her family and friends. She had a passion for fishing, spending countless hours by the water. She also loved planting flowers and collecting jewelry, but nothing could match her joy for fishing. Gloria had a special love for peach drinks and slow jams, often filling her home with the smooth sounds of her favorite music.

She is preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Townsend, her brother, Ronnie McKoy, and her sisters, Velma Regan and Lynn Hayes.

Gloria is survived by her beloved children: Mary A. Rowser (Kenneth), Paul McCollum, and Kaniya Scott; her siblings: Sarah Hawkins, Linwood McKoy, Dennis McKoy, Sheila Powers (Willie), and John McKoy; and her best friend and "boo thing" to the end, William Huggins, who will deeply miss her.

Gloria was blessed with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and many dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Gloria Ann Thompson will always be remembered as a woman who loved deeply, laughed heartily, and lived life on her own terms.

Rest in peace, Gloria. Your spirit will continue to light up our lives.
