Wyatt Johnson, born in 1928 in Eufaula, Alabama, where he was raised and later graduated from high school, passed away peacefully. Faced with financial constraints that prevented him from attending college, he chose to enlist in the U.S. Army. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, LaJoan Johnson, as well as his parents, Douglas and Alberta Johnson. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his two brothers, Douglas Johnson Jr. and Alpetty Johnson.

Upon joining the Army, Wyatt's assignments encompassed 11 major combat campaigns, notably including Korea and Vietnam. Upon retiring from military service, Wyatt transitioned to civilian life in 1976 and settled in Lumberton, the hometown of his beloved wife. His dedication to public service remained steadfast for an impressive 25 years, during which he made valuable contributions as a council member.
